Call center tips for applicants




I.                    Initial Interview
This interview is usually a group interview, meaning there will be other applicants in the room with you. You will be interviewed one by one.
Sample questions:
1.       Tell me something about yourself (that is not already in your resume)
2.       Why did you apply in a call center?
3.       How long are you planning to stay in this company?
4.       Where do you see yourself in five years?
5.       Why should we hire you?
6.       RANDOM QUESTION

TIP:
-          Be confident.
-          Speak louder. You are in a big room, if the interviewer cannot hear you, they will not hire you.
-          If you didn’t hear the question, ask the interviewer to repeat
-          For the random question, you don’t have to answer right away. Stop and think about your answer first. It is better to think before speaking.
-          NO TAGALOG
-          Always remember that they are assessing your English speaking skills.



II.                  PC-based Tests (mostly multiple choice)
a.       Grammar
This test basically assesses your written grammar skills. It includes tenses (past, present, future tenses), prepositions (at, in, on), definite and indefinite articles (a/an, the).

b.      Reading Comprehension
For this test, you will be given a paragraph at the start of the exam, and then will be asked questions about the exam.
TIP: Read the questions before reading the paragraph, that way your mind will be more attentive when reading the paragraph.

c.       IT Test
This test is given to assess your knowledge about computers and the internet
Examples:
1.       What does ISP mean? Internet Service Provider
2.       They will show you a picture of a part of the computer, you would have to name that part of the computer.

d.      Researching Information
This test assesses your ability to research using the internet. You will be given a set of trivia questions that you will be able to answer using the search bar.


e.      Typing Test
You can practice through this site:

Pick        “English” as the language
“2 mins” as the duration
“Aesop’s Fables” as the test
Passing grade for this exam is 35 words per minute (35 wpm). You are allowed to take this exam twice. ( or around 25 – 40 wpm)

TIP: The timer starts when you start typing so don’t start typing until you’re ready.



III.                Behavioral Interview
This interview mainly assesses your commitment to the company. Make sure to let them know that you are here for the long term.
Be aware that they are still assessing your speaking skills.

Sample Questions:
1.       What job are you applying for and why?
2.       What is your expected salary?
3.       How long are you planning to stay with the company?
4.       Personal questions

TIP: Be confident when answering, the interviewer will notice how you carry yourself during the interview.

IV.                Versant (depending on the account assigned to you)
You will be asked to dial a number wherein a voice recording will give you instructions for the tests. Please note that you are allowed to write at the back of the instruction paper.
A.      Reading
-          Read the sentences as the voice instructed
B.      Repeat
-          Repeat each sentence that you hear
C.      Questions
-          The voice will ask simple questions and you will be asked to answer with a simple answer.
Example:
Voice: “What color is snow?”
You: “White”
D.      Sentence Builds
-          The voice will give three phrases, you are asked to arrange the phrases into a sentence.
Example:
Voice: “was reading”…”my father”…”the newspaper”
You: “My father was reading the newspaper.”
E.       Story Retellings
-          The voice will give three stories, you would have to retell each story after the beep. You are given 30 seconds to retell as much of the story as you can, including the situation, characters, activities.
TIP:
Each story will only be spoken once. Write down the major points of each story: the characters’ names, what they are doing, what the flow of the situation is.
F.       Open Questions
-          The voice will ask you two personal questions. Each question will be repeated, followed by a beep. You will be asked to answer each question.
TIP:
The voice won’t judge you based on the content of your answer, but on the structure of your sentences and your grammar. Don’t worry about the content.
